Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (UNIMUS) received a courtesy visit from Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) Tembalang Subdistrict on Friday, February 10, 2026. The meeting took place at the Executive Meeting Room, 9th Floor of GKB 3 Building, UNIMUS, serving as a forum for dialogue and collaboration between the university and religious leaders in addressing community and societal issues.
During the meeting, the Head of MUI Tembalang, Agus Siswanto, highlighted several socio-religious concerns in the Tembalang area. One of the key issues raised was the need to strengthen student involvement in mosque activities.
He noted that although mosques in Tembalang are physically well-equipped, the level of participation—especially among students—still needs to be improved. Therefore, he encouraged universities, including UNIMUS, to motivate students to actively engage in mosque-based activities, making them centers for religious, educational, and social development.
In addition, he emphasized the importance of proper administrative practices in family life, particularly marriage registration. He pointed out that some members of the community still do not complete formal registration processes, which could lead to administrative and social issues in the future.
Responding to these concerns, the Rector of UNIMUS, Masrukhi, stated that higher education institutions play a strategic role in balancing religious values and national development. He emphasized that all knowledge ultimately originates from God, whether categorized as religious or general knowledge, differing only in approach and perspective.
He also highlighted that religious scholars and academics have complementary roles in preserving and advancing knowledge for the benefit of society. In this regard, MUI is viewed as a strategic partner for both the government and universities in addressing societal and national issues.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of a deep understanding of Islamic teachings to foster values such as compassion, unity, and mutual respect within a diverse society.
In the national context, he underlined that both universities and MUI share the responsibility of shaping a society that is intellectually capable, ethically grounded, and aware of its role as responsible citizens.
Through this meeting, UNIMUS and MUI Tembalang agreed to strengthen collaboration in various community engagement and service programs, particularly in empowering students, enhancing mosque development, and fostering a religious, inclusive, and progressive society.
