Semarang | Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (UNIMUS) once again demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian action by deploying nine healthcare volunteers to assist communities affected by a disaster in Central Aceh on Wednesday (January 21). This initiative reflects the strong concern of UNIMUS and the Muhammadiyah organization in responding to disaster situations across Indonesia.
The deployed team consists of professionals from various healthcare fields, including two doctors, four nurses, one pharmacist, one midwife, and one nutritionist who also serves as the logistics coordinator. In addition to personnel, UNIMUS also provided medical supplies and supporting healthcare equipment to enhance services in the disaster-affected area.
In her remarks, Vice Rector III of UNIMUS emphasized that the role of volunteers extends beyond providing medical services, highlighting the importance of delivering accurate field reports to ensure transparency and accountability to the public and donors. Documentation such as reports, photos, and videos is expected to provide a clear picture of the situation on-site.
She also reaffirmed that Muhammadiyah remains committed to helping those affected by disasters, regardless of their classification, as part of a humanitarian mission and the embodiment of Islamic values.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UNIMUS stressed the importance of maintaining trust and upholding the institution’s reputation during humanitarian missions. He reminded the volunteers that their actions represent not only themselves but also the values and integrity of UNIMUS and Muhammadiyah.
Furthermore, he explained that Muhammadiyah’s humanitarian efforts are carried out continuously through contributions of expertise, manpower, and financial support. Funds collected nationally through Lazismu have reached tens of billions of rupiah and will continue to grow to support post-disaster recovery.
In closing, the university leaders expressed their hopes and prayers for the volunteers’ safety, health, and success in carrying out their mission, and for their safe return.
Through this initiative, UNIMUS hopes that the presence of healthcare volunteers in Central Aceh will provide meaningful assistance to affected communities and contribute to the recovery process, in line with the humanitarian values upheld by Muhammadiyah.
