Semarang | The Faculty of Education and Humanities at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (UNIMUS) reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing students’ global perspectives by organizing a visiting lecture titled “Education for Sustainable Development: Preparing Future Generations for Global Challenges” on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The event took place at Room A107, GKB 3 Building, 1st Floor, and featured two international academics from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mazlini Adnan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Hairi Ibrahim.
This guest lecture represents a strategic initiative by FIPH to integrate learning processes with global issues while broadening students’ understanding of increasingly complex global challenges. The event was attended not only by students but also by lecturers and the academic community of FIPH, who participated enthusiastically in the session.
In his remarks, the Dean of FIPH UNIMUS, Dodi Mulyadi, emphasized that the activity is a concrete implementation of the international collaboration between UNIMUS and UPSI, which has been established since 2019. Various collaborative programs, such as student exchanges and public lectures, have been carried out as part of strengthening cross-border academic networks.
He explained that this visiting lecture is expected to enrich the knowledge of FIPH students across five study programs, including Teacher Professional Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, Chemistry Education, and English Literature.
Furthermore, the program aims to enhance students’ understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are part of national education priorities. He highlighted that future educators must have a comprehensive understanding of SDGs as a foundation for developing sustainable education.
He also underlined the strategic role of education in sustaining human life, particularly in relation to environmental, social, and sustainable development aspects. Quality learning processes are expected to contribute significantly to improving people’s quality of life.
During the session, Mohd Hairi Ibrahim stressed that education serves as a tool for social transformation, equipping learners with critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability skills to face global changes.
Meanwhile, Mazlini Adnan presented various innovations in technology-based learning, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. She explained that AI is not merely a supporting tool but also an opportunity to develop more personalized, adaptive, and effective learning systems. Students are encouraged not only to use technology but also to think critically, be creative, and evaluate technological developments.
The presentations from both speakers were met with strong enthusiasm from participants, followed by an interactive discussion session that reflected students’ high interest in understanding the role of sustainable education amid global challenges such as climate change, technological disruption, and social inequality.
Through this activity, FIPH UNIMUS hopes that students will not only gain theoretical insights but also internalize sustainability values in future educational practices. This visiting lecture also demonstrates UNIMUS’ commitment to advancing internationalization and preparing future educators who are innovative, adaptive, and globally competitive.
