Semarang | The Undergraduate Civil Engineering Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (UNIMUS) organized a public lecture titled “Flood Control and Drainage System Development in Semarang City” on Monday, January 12, 2026. This activity was part of an academic initiative to broaden students’ perspectives on urban flooding issues and sustainable engineering solutions.

The event took place at the Auditorium of GKB III Building, 1st Floor, and was attended by students, lecturers, and members of the academic community at UNIMUS. The lecture also attracted participants from other universities, particularly those from related fields of study.

The Head of the Civil Engineering Program explained that the lecture aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the recurring flood problems in Semarang. As a major city in Indonesia, Semarang faces flooding challenges influenced by natural conditions, geographical factors, and human activities that affect urban water management systems.
He added that the activity was designed to bridge theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with real-world applications, particularly in planning and developing effective and sustainable urban drainage systems.
During the session, an experienced expert in flood control presented the current flood conditions in Semarang, the contributing factors, and various strategies for flood mitigation and drainage system development. The material was delivered comprehensively by linking civil engineering concepts with practical implementation.

The session continued with an interactive discussion and Q&A segment, where participants actively engaged with the speaker, explored the issues in depth, and connected the material with relevant case studies.
Through this public lecture, the Civil Engineering Program at UNIMUS hopes that students will gain a more practical and contextual understanding of urban flooding issues and be able to contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions for future urban development.
